What's The Difference Between PVC And PET?

PET is polyethylene terephthalate, and PVC is polyvinyl chloride. The two can be distinguished by the combustion method:

 

Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)

 

Appearance: transparent.

Combustibility: flammable, continues to burn away from the flame. PET melts and burns when close to the flame, and can continue to burn away from the flame. A few have smoke and a faint sweet smell. The ash is hard and round, black or light brown.

 

PET hard sheets have good toughness, high transparency, and are easy to burn. They do not produce harmful gases when burned. They are environmentally friendly materials, but they are expensive and suitable for high-end blister products. Blister shells in European and American countries generally require PET hard sheets, but they are not easy to heat seal, which brings great difficulties to packaging. In order to solve this problem, people compound a layer of PVC film on the surface of PET, that is, PETG hard sheets, but the price is relatively high.

The main properties are: high tensile strength, stiffness and hardness, thermal performance PET long-term use temperature can reach 120 degrees, low water absorption, good chemical stability, good electrical insulation.

 

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

Appearance: transparent to opaque, hard.
Softening or melting temperature range: 75~90℃.
Burning flame state: yellow on the top, green on the bottom, white smoke and pungent sour smell; after leaving the fire: extinguished when leaving the fire.

 

PVC hard sheets have moderate toughness, are not easy to burn, and produce chlorine when burned, which has a certain impact on the environment. PVC is easy to heat seal and can be sealed with sealing machines and high-frequency machines. It is the main raw material for producing transparent blister products.

 

The main properties are: quite rigid, good chemical corrosion resistance, but brittle and hard, less elastic, flammable and self-extinguishing.

 

What's the difference?

 

1. PVC is not recyclable, but PET is recyclable;
2. If PET bottles and PVC labels are used, the PVC labels need to be torn off when the bottles are recycled; but the PET labels do not need to be torn off;
3. PET has excellent medium properties, and has good anti-fouling, anti-scratch, and high temperature resistance properties;
4. PVC and PET have similar properties, better flexibility than PET, and a softer feel, but PVC has poor degradation and has a negative impact on the environment.
