Precautions For Producing Plastic Bottles
Sep 06, 2024| When designing extruded plastic bottles, if the material is high-density polyethylene or polypropylene, the cross-section of the plastic bottle should be rectangular or elliptical. For low-density polyethylene or other flexible plastic bottles, a circular cross-section is preferred. This makes it easier for the contents to be squeezed out of the plastic bottle. The plastic parts used in conjunction with plastic bottle mouths are mainly bottle caps and sealers. The design of plastic bottle mouth should focus on how to better match the lid and sealer. The bottom of a plastic bottle is the weak point in its mechanical properties. Therefore, the bottom of plastic bottles is generally designed to be concave; The corners and concave areas of the plastic bottle should have large circular arcs for transition. To facilitate the stacking of plastic bottles and increase their stacking stability, an inner groove should be designed at the bottom of the plastic bottles.

When using labels on the surface of plastic bottles, the label surface should be flat. A "frame" can be designed on the surface of the plastic bottle to accurately position the label without causing any movement. During blow molding, the area where the billet first comes into contact with inflation tends to harden first. Therefore, the wall thickness of this area is also thicker. The edge and corner areas are the final contact points of the billet during blowing, and the wall thickness of these areas is relatively small. Therefore, the edges and corners of plastic bottles should be designed with rounded corners. Changing the surface shape of plastic bottles, such as making the middle of the bottle relatively thinner and adding circumferential grooves or ribs on the surface of the bottle, can improve the rigidity and bending resistance of the plastic bottle. Vertical grooves or reinforcing ribs can eliminate the displacement, sagging, or deformation of plastic bottles under long-term loads.

The printing surface of plastic bottles is the most focused area for consumers' attention. The printing surface should be flat and continuous; If the plastic bottle contains structures such as handles, grooves, and reinforcing ribs, attention should be paid to not causing inconvenience to the printing operation during design. Elliptical plastic bottles have high rigidity, but the manufacturing cost of molds is relatively high. Therefore, in order to ensure the rigidity of plastic bottles, in addition to selecting materials with high rigidity, it is also necessary to enhance the rigidity and load-bearing strength of plastic bottles through their external design.

Due to the sensitivity of most plastics to notches, plastic bottles are prone to cracking and cracking at sharp corners, root of mouth threads, neck, and other areas. Therefore, these areas should be designed with rounded corners. For the transfer point of rectangular plastic bottles, it is necessary to support most of the load of the plastic bottle, so increasing the wall thickness locally is also beneficial for improving the stiffness and load-bearing strength of the plastic bottle.
